Frequently asked questions.
General Dog Training FAQs
1. What age should I start training my dog?
You can start basic training as early as 8 weeks old. Puppies are capable of learning simple cues and routines right away. Older dogs can learn too—it’s never too late to start.
2. How long does it take to train a dog?
That depends on your dog, as they are all individual, the training goals, and how consistent you are. Some behaviours improve in a few weeks, while more complex issues can take months. It’s a process, not a quick fix.
3. Do you use positive reinforcement?
Yes. We focus on reward-based methods that are backed by science. Positive reinforcement builds trust, encourages learning, and avoids fear or intimidation.
4. What should I bring to training sessions?
Bring your dog on a lead, a flat collar and harness, and plenty of small, tasty treats. If your dog has a favourite toy, that’s helpful too.
5. My dog already knows sit and stay. Do we still need training?
Yes. Basic cues are just the beginning. Training helps with impulse control, generalisation and how your dog handles the real world—not just tricks at home.
Behaviour Issues FAQs
6. My dog is reactive on lead. Can you help?
Absolutely. Reactivity is common and manageable with the right approach. We’ll work on desensitization, impulse control, and helping your dog feel safer and more in control.
7. My dog is aggressive toward other dogs/people. Is training still possible?
Yes, but it’s possible, but important to address it carefully. We’ll assess the behaviour, identify triggers, and create a plan that prioritizes safety and behaviour change over time.
8. How do you handle fear or anxiety in dogs?
We work at your dog’s pace using fear-free methods. Whether it’s separation anxiety, noise sensitivity, or general nervousness, we focus on helping your dog feel more secure, and refer to co-professionals when needed.
Training Programs & Logistics
9. Do you offer private sessions or group classes?
We offer both, depending on your dog’s needs. Private sessions are great for specific issues, while group classes help with socialisation and distractions.
10. How do I book a session?
You can contact us through the website or email us directly at caninencoclassroom@yahoo.com. We’ll schedule an initial consultation and talk about the best plan for you and your dog.
11. Do you train all breeds and sizes?
Yes. Every dog deserves good training, no matter their breed, age, or size.
12. What if I miss a class or session?
Let us know as soon as possible. We’ll do our best to reschedule or offer a make-up class if our policy allows.
